Rebel the otter was floating on his back in the river, chewing on the remains of a salmon he had caught earlier. As he lay there, the steady ebb of the river rocked him up and down, and he didn't mind drifting where it took him. 'This is a perfect day,' he thought to himself, but of course, for him, everyday was perfect. Perfect for being lazy on the river, and occasionally playing pranks on other animals. They never knew when he would strike. Rebel chuckled to himself, thinking of the pranks he had played recently. Chewing on the salmon bones, he continued to float, wondering what he might do today.

Kenai, oblivious of the otter who was afloat, had stopped by the river for a drink. Ah, how he loved the river, he loved the water.. and it was the perfect day for a swim. After taking a nice long thirst quenching drink, he waded out, his chocolate brown fur turning darker as it soaked up the river water like a sponge. He swam out a good distance, his powerful hind legs working against the current. This made him happy. The water felt good on his body. He closed his eyes and sighed happily. Little did he realize that the playful otter was near..

As Rebel floats, he feels a disturbance in the water, although it is only slight. The otter perks his head up, and notices a large bear wading into the water. Silently and smoothly, Rebel slips under the water and into the depths of the river where he sees the massive paws of the bear. A smile plays at the corner of his mouth, and he contemplates whether he should pull a prank on such a large, dangerous animal. Going against all his better judgement, the otter can't help it. It was too perfect! Swiftly swimming, Rebel snatches up long strands of the kelp-like grass that grows under the water. As the bear is still trodding through the water, Rebel ties the pieces of grass together, creating a makeshift rope. Rebel sees where the bear is headed, and swift as the current he streaks by the bear. Tying one end of the rope to a stick, and the other end to another stick, he has created a trip wire right in the bear's path. Sliding back in the silky water, the otter surfaces, his head only slightly poking up to watch the effects of his work.

Koda was taking a swim and he saw Kenai. Then he saw the trap. Koda gasped. "Kenai, look out!" he cried. Koda jumped on Kenai and pushed him under the water before he fell into the trap. Both of them popped their heads out of the water. Koda looked around and saw a beaver's head sticking out of the water. Koda knew he had made the trap. He swam towards him. "Who are you?" Koda growled.
